Madonna uses Nazi Imagery in Latest Shows, Shows She Doesn’t Think [MDNA]
Madonna is currently on a European tour called “MDNA.” Her tour and message throughout is about, “the intolerance that we human beings have for each other.” What is making news about the tour is Madonna’s use of putting a swastika on her forehead during a video montage and other use of Nazi imagery.
Chinese leader Hu Jintao, Sarah Palin are shown in the montage with Adolf Hitler finishing it. Class act Madonna. Madonna’s moves are being criticized by many leaders in Europe such as French National Front Leader Marine Le Pen who is shown in the video before Hitler.
Madonna is an artist that has remained relevant throughout the decades because of her reability to invent herself. Most recently her use of dance music with some dubstep mixed in. Somehow she figures out a way to remain to cool to even the younger people as their parents talk about how Madonna is such a global superstar. This time though, she missed. Part of me knows she can really pick out what people like but this time she was wrong.
She already made a joke earlier in the tour about “Molly,” which is a high end drug similar to ecstacy. DeadMau5 spoke out against her, and rightfully so. Now Madonna is using Nazi imagery in her shows to show how people treat each other poorly. Madonna must be acting out what she is against because especially for people in Europe the Nazi party is something that is still visible. There are holocaust memorials throughout Europe and many parts of a history of being ruined by the Nazi’s invading. It shows an incredible little amount of thinking towards this topic.
Madonna said, “Music should inspire ideas, right? Ideas inspire music.” Through constant reinvention Madonna seems to have forgotten that some ideas, like Nazism, should be left alone.
