Your Sunday Night Just got that Much More Interesting

So, it has come the time of year again when many of the critically acclaimed shows start airing, and for many, this means that Sunday nights have become a lot busier. Last night were the season premieres of two incredibly well received shows, Dexter (season 7) and Homeland (season 2), and after watching both of them, I can safely say that both shows are going to win awards, it is now just the discussion of how many they will each win. I want to go into a brief overview of each of the shows, noting things that I found particularly intriguing, and maybe even give some predictions of where each of the shows may (or could) go with the rest of the season. Because they are both on back to back, I will start with the earlier show (Dexter), and then move onto the later show (Homeland), so buckle your seat belts, and get ready for some good old fashioned TV reviewin!

The hint that I will give you if you are not caught up is that Deb will be playing a very key role in this season.

My evening started with the 7th season premier of Dexter, and I have to say that I was pretty excited to see how the series was able to pick up after the cliffhanger of the last season. I will not necessarily ruin the surprise of season 6, but I will say that it is quite big, and I was curious as to if the producers could keep the strength going. I’m glad to announce that my high expectations were completely met, as the season opener picked up perfectly, hinted at the villains of the series, and also ended extremely strong. I honestly was starting to get a little bit tired of Dexter, but after seeing this season premiere, I am completely on board for the rest of the season, and my weariness is gone. If they continue the season in the same style of the first episode, I cannot see this show not winning 5+ Emmys, solely based on the fact that it is like nothing that is on TV right now. The characters that you know and love are going to be put into some very interesting situations, and I couldn’t be more excited to see how they get out of them. In fact, almost all of my friends have come up with two ways that the season can end, and I have to say that either one of them would make for absolutely amazing television.

After Dexter was the second season premiere of one of my favorite shows last year, Homeland. If you have not watched or read any of my reviews on Homeland before, I would suggest going out and watching it right now. The first season is honestly one of the best seasons of television period, so my excitement leading into season 2 was extremely high. To be honest, I was curious how they could top the first season, and while it is not as powerful as the first seasons episode one, I think that the second season could go in some pretty cool directions. As was seen with the first season, the show does not really pick up until mid to late season, but I think that the groundwork has been laid quite well for another extremely good season of television, which I am excited about.

Brody remains to be one of the characters that I am most interested with, in all of television

When I think about the premium television channels, I always tended to think that HBO was far above that which was Showtime, in terms of quality programming. While HBO is certainly not slacking off, I feel like with these seasons of these two amazing shows, Showtime is really starting to catch up, and perhaps even surpass HBO (if the seasons travel down the paths that I think they might). I would highly recommend these seasons to any that were fans of the show previously, or are currently catching up on the show. Both the season premieres have really invigorated the love that I had for each of these series, and I cannot wait to see how they end up.

Let's see here, what do I like to do...When I am not writing Western Novels, Movies and TV are pretty good I suppose. Another thing I have realized that I like are psychological puns, those always turn out to be pretty clever. I like to read too, that's still a thing, right?
