PAC-12 Week 13 Review and Final Standings
PAC-12 North
Oregon
This Week: Beat Oregon State 49-21. There’s a whole big recap on the front page in the featured slider. It got ugly.
Next Week: Hosting the UCLA Bruins at Autzen Stadium, winner goes to the Rose Bowl.
Stanford
This Week: Beat Notre Dame 28-14. The Cardinal outgained the Fighting Irish by 120 yards and rushed for 196 yards. Andrew Luck went 20/20 for 233 yards, four touchdowns, and a pick. The tight ends were too big and too fast for Notre Dame to handle and it was a huge mismatch. Notre Dame didn’t get on the board until 39 minutes in to the game and scored again with 23 seconds left to make the game look semi-respectable. Stanford held Notre Dame to 1.8 yards per rush and made a big statement as to why they should be in a BCS bowl.
Postseason: Most likely a BCS at-large bid, probably to the Fiesta Bowl.
Washington
This Week: Beat Washington State 38-21. The Huskies outgained the Cougars by 50 yards and held the Cougars to only 38 yards rushing, allowing only 1.3 yards per carry. The Cougars turned the ball over twice. Price looked like he had his best game of the season going 21/29 for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns. Chris Polk had 22 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown. This was all Huskies all the way except for the second quarter where the Cougars played great for 5 minutes.
Postseason: Bowling.
Cal
This Week: Beat Arizona State 47-38. Giorgia Tavecchio was the man of the match, kicking four field goals, two being longer than 45 yards. Isi Sofele killed it on the ground, carrying the ball 21 times for 145 yards and a touchdown. A strong ground game took the pressure of Zach Maynard who only threw 26 passes. Cal had a great jump out of the half after trailing by a point and went on a 14 point streak.
Postseason: Bowling after a 7-5 finish.
Oregon State
This week: Lost to Oregon 49-21. Good luck next year Beavers.
Postseason: Couch.
Washington State
This Week: Lost to Washington in the Apple Cup 38-21. The Cougars turned the ball over twice and it sounds like Paul Wulff is out as head coach. There’s a lot of building to still do in Pullman and good luck finding a coach who wants to take on that project. The lack of a running game has crushed the Cougars in many games and they were plagued by injuries. There were a lot of bright moments this season but apparently it wasn’t enough to keep Wulff around.
Postseason: Couch.
PAC-12 South
USC
This Week: Beat USC 50-0. USC is still pissed they are banned from the postseason and took it out on UCLA. Barkley was in and throwing until 40 seconds were left in the game. The Trojans outgained the Bruins by 190 yards and forced a turnover in the red zone. Barkely, an almost gaurunteed top five pick, has the option to either stay in college for another year or go pro. He finished the day going 35/42 for 423 yards and 6 touchdowns. Marqise Lee has gone crazy the last few weeks and he finished with 13 receptions, 224 yards receiving, and 2 touchdowns. Robert Woods had 12 catches for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Trojans held UCLA to only 124 yards rushing and forced Prince to throw the ball 33 times.
Postseason: Couch, last offseason of being banned.
UCLA
This Week: Lost to USC 50-0. The Bruins looked so bad in this game. The score is about accurate but the yardage isn’t. UCLA isn’t good. They’re not close. How they fell in to this position of playing Oregon next week in the conference championship game is a joke and a testament to the ineptitude of the southern division sans USC. The Bruins couldn’t stop anything on defense and looked lost on offense, victims to the hard hits of the Trojan defense.
Next Week: At Oregon playing for a Rose Bowl. Good luck Bruins.
Arizona State
This week: Lost to Cal 47-38. The Sun Devils just completed one of the most amazing collapses of any team in my recent memory. Sparky, like in every loss, screwed themselves over with four turnovers. They were very close to the Bears in total yards but anytime a team turns the ball over three more times than the other team, they are going to lose. It appears that there will also be a new coach next year at the helm to replace Dennis Erickson.
Postseason: Bowling, finished 6-6 after a four game skid, losing five of their last six.
Utah
This Week: Lost to Colorado 17-14. The Utes were on a four game win streak in conference and then lost to Colorado of all teams. If the Utes had won they would have gone to Eugene to play Oregon for the rights to go to the Rose Bowl. Utah could only get 89 yards on the ground and 185 through the air while Colorado got 109 on the ground and 264 through the air. The Utes simply got beat at home by a team that had no business even being in the game.
Postseason: Bowling
Colorado
This Week: Beat Utah 17-14. The Buffs outgained the Utes by almost 100 yards. They benefited from an extra turnover but averaged 3.6 yards a carry and held the Utes to 2.7 yards a carry, much better than their season average for each statistic. The Buffs even fought off ten penalties compared to Utah’s six and it was great for Colorado to get their first PAC-12 win in their final game of the season.
Next Week: Couch
Arizona
This Week: Beat LA-Lafayette 45-37. The best news from this week was that Rich Rodriguez is taking over in Tucson. Michigan was not ready for a coach like Rich Rodriguez and the Wildcats are a much better fit. The school didn’t pay Rodriguez much so that means he can probably also look for a top defensive coordinator, since, you know, Rich doesn’t seem to coach defense.
Postseason: Couch
