NFL Week 3 Picks and Preview
Patriots at Bills
I love the Patriots this year. BenKenny Green-head has been a great running back and AaRon Gronandez is one of the most dangerous tight ends in the league. In terms of fantasy football Brady has shown that both Ron Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez can get serious points with both of them playing. Hernandez is getting split out wide a lot and the Pats are using a lot of two tight end sets. The Bills are using their own form of the spread offense, quietly using four receivers on the field 25% of the time. I like the Pats to win but the Bills to cover.
49ers at Bengals
The 49ers were just a couple plays away from starting 2-0 and beating the Cowboys. They clearly aren’t a 2-0 team but hey, it almost happened. Andy Dalton has looked good for the Bengals so far, like football outsiders predicted. Between these two below average teams I like the Harbaugh led 49ers to win a close one and cover.
Dolphins at Browns
The showdown in Cleveland, Ohio. Daniel Thomas saw his carries surge last week, rushing for 108 yards. Reggie Bush is still getting used a lot and looks much improved from his career in New Orleans. Colt McCoy has looked good at quarterback and Peyton Hillis is still getting goalie carries. The Dolphins have turned over a new leaf and are passing a lot more, and they’re going to pass for a win at the Browns.
Broncos at Titans
Kenny Britt is apparently taking this season more seriously than previous years and now that he’s got a steady, good quarterback throwing the ball around his fantasy life has been revitalized. The Broncos have Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton but are without a few key players.
Lions at Vikings
The Lions surge is pretty amazing. If things go right for them the Lions can be a really, really good team this year. Everyone knew they would be better, but I think that how good they’ve been have surprised a lot of people. McNabb hasn’t been looking great at quarterback. I’m not sure if the Vikings were expecting a Favre-like comeback, because they’re sure not getting it.
Texans at Saints
The Texans defense appears to be really good. They’ve played the Colts, an awful team right now, and the Dolphins, an awful team last year. We’re not sure exactly how good this team is though. They’ll be without Arian foster and will get their first true test of the season on defense with the Drew Brees led passing attack.
Giants at Eagles
I have yet to pick against the Eagles, and it’s hard to not cheer for these guys and Vick. They’re like the Miami Heat in that they were thrown together as individuals and we’re waiting them to start playing as a team. I have almost no faith in Eli Manning as a quarterback and Eagle secondary could eat him alive.
Jaguars at Panthers
Who saw this performance coming from Cam Newton? I didn’t, and I don’t know anyone who did. Obviously the Panthers had some idea of what he could do. He’s brought back Steve Smith from the dead and has killed DeAngelo William’s fantasy value. The progress Newton has made is nothing short of amazing and Jaguar quarterback Blaine Gabbert has been struggling.
Chiefs at Chargers
The Chiefs are so dead. There isn’t a threat of a backdoor cover or anything this game. Kansas City may just lie down and try to get out of San Diego. This one will get ugly.
Jets at Raiders
The Raiders at Bills game last week was the best game of the week. It was a shootout and constantly exciting with the rise of Demarius Moore. However, the Jets are a Super Bowl caliber team and even though they struggled against Dallas, they can score in bunches even without great play from Mark Sanchez.
Ravens at Rams
I just have a feeling about this one. I can’t explain it, but the Ravens as a road favorite doesn’t sound like a good deal.
Falcons at Buccaneers
The Falcons looked good against the Eagles and can run the ball really well. Julio Jones, while not producing crazy stats, is a serious threat at all times.
Packers at Bears
Cheese heads must be pleased so far with the Packers performance. The Bears win against the Falcons was a perfect storm and I really like the Packers this year.
Cardinals at Seahawks
The Seahawks are absolutely awful. They are clearly trying to get Andrew Luck, there’s no way a team this poor gets put together on accident.
Steelers at Colts
The Colts are in the same position as the Chiefs. They’re entire team is built around a smart passing attack led by Peyton Manning and a defense playing with a lead. The Colts poor drafting the last few years is coming to the surface and this team looks lost. The Steelers get they’re second cupcake in two weeks and are going to easily cover the 10.5 point spread.
Redskins at Cowboys
The Redskins have looked pretty good so far this year. Rex Grossman is acceptable and running backs Roy Helu Jr. and Tim Hightower are producing. It’s weird. The Cowboys are at home but Romo is having a lot of problems breathing after injuring his ribs, Felix Jones has a shoulder injury, Miles Austin is out for a few weeks, and Dez Bryant has a severe bruise on his leg that has held him out of practice. It’s a war of attrition and the Redskins may pull this one out.
George’s Picks
Patriots at Buffalo
No doubt the Bills are hot right now but there’s no way the take down the Pats. Tom Brady is playing too well right now to lose this one. It’ll be interesting to see how the New England defense plays in this one.
49ers at Bengals
Andy Dalton isn’t playing like a rookie right now and the 49er secondary looked pretty suspect last week. AJ Green catches two touchdowns and San Francisco has trouble moving the ball.
Dolphins at Browns
Something has go to give for Miami. They’ve played fairly well this season and have nothing to show for it. Chad Henne restores some faith this week with a strong showing against a weak Cleveland defense. Colt McCoy is not a franchise QB. Nuff’ said.
Broncos at Titans
Where did that passing attack come from last week? Hasselbeck single handedly won that game for Tennessee despite no running game whatsoever. Chris Johnson plays like Chris Johnson this time around and Kyle Orton doesn’t have his best day.
Lions at Vikings
Things can’t get much worse in Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to get better. McNabb certainly looks washed up right now, which is killing me because Percy Harvin is on my fantasy team. Detroit rollsssss.
Texans at Saints
This has the making of a great game and a blowout. We’ll find out just how mature the Texans are in their switch to a 3-4 defense. I’m going with a blowout. Brees and company have a field day.
Giants at Eagles
This usually intriguing division rivalry is a little lopsided right now given all of New York’s injuries. Vick has a field day against a depleted defense.
Jaguars at Panthers
Cam Newton gets his first win over a mediocre Jags team. The whole league will be watching as two first round QBs face off, but I don’t see Blaine Gabbert doing well in his first start.
Chiefs at Chargers
No explanation necessary.
Jets at Raiders
Sanchez had better put up some numbers or my fantasy season is in trouble. I think he will against an Oakland team that has major issues. Major Issues. Major Issues.
Ravens at Rams
“I just have a feeling about this one. I can’t explain it, but the Ravens as a road favorite doesn’t sound like a good deal.” Bullshit.
Falcons at Buccaneers
This could develop into an intense rivalry in the coming years given that both teams have solid, young quarterbacks. That being said I think the Buccaneers are a year away from being a top 10 team. They’ve taken a small step back this year.
Packers at Bears
Clay Matthews is going to have a field day with the porous Chicago offensive line. Jay Cutler may not survive.
Cardinals at Seahawks
Seattle fans should be calling for Charlie Whitehurst, which is not a good sign.
Steelers at Colts
This could end poorly.
Redskins at Cowboys
Romo gets some redemption this week and we see the real Rex Grossman finally.
